What is a learning coach?
As a Learning Coach, I provide personalised support to help children develop their mindset and identity as learners. With a strengths-based focus, I encourage learners to overcome challenges and reach their full academic potential. I work one-on-one with each child or in small groups to build confidence, strengthen learning strategies, and address challenges from a holistic perspective, considering emotional, sensory, developmental, and environmental factors alongside academic needs.
How do I know if my child needs a learning coach?
Your child may benefit from learning coaching if they:
- Avoid or resist schoolwork
- Experience ongoing academic struggles despite effort or support
- Show signs of stress, frustration, or anxiety around learning
- Have difficulty with focus, memory, organisation, or study skills
- Need guidance using academic accommodations effectively
- Would benefit from a more integrated and personalised approach
Coaching is always tailored to individual needs. If you’re unsure whether this is the right fit, please book a discovery call and we can chat through the possibilities together.
How is your approach different from tutoring or therapy?
Tutoring typically focuses on consolidating or reinforcing subject-specific content, while therapy often addresses emotional or developmental concerns and may involve formal diagnoses. My work as a Learning Coach bridges both areas. With a background in education, learning support, and therapeutic modalities, I take a well-rounded approach that recognises how emotional, sensory, developmental and environmental factors influence academic performance and overall wellbeing.
What kinds of learners do you work with?
I work with people of all ages, from primary school through to high school and beyond. I support a wide range of learners, including those who:
- Struggle with attention, focus, or organisation
- Experience anxiety or low confidence related to school
- Have specific learning difficulties or barriers
- Need help developing effective study habits or academic resilience
- Are navigating transitions or school-related stress
What is unique about this offering?
My coaching approach is rooted in both education and wellbeing. It combines evidence-informed learning strategies with tools that support emotional regulation, sensory awareness, personal development and wellbeing. Each session is designed to build confidence and self-belief, not just improve grades. The goal is to nurture lifelong learners who understand their own minds and can thrive in and beyond the classroom.
What methods or tools do you use in coaching sessions?
My sessions draw on a wide variety of evidence-informed and body-based approaches, depending on each learner’s unique needs. Coaching principles are guided by positive psychology and an understanding of the whole child.
Coaching tools may include:
- Cognitive learning and study strategies
- Thinking tools and problem-solving methodologies
- Executive functioning support
- Emotional literacy and reflection activities
- Sensory Intelligence ® insight and awareness
- Nervous system regulation and somatic support
- Trauma-sensitive and body-based care
- Access Bars®
Each session is tailored to the learner, with a focus on connection, trust, and sustainable progress.
What can be expected from the coaching process?
The process begins with an initial stage involving both parent(s) and child to gain a clear understanding of the learner’s strengths, challenges, and goals. This may take place in one or more sessions, depending on circumstances and needs.
From there, we develop a personalised coaching plan that outlines focus areas and practical next steps. Coaching sessions are usually held weekly or biweekly, depending on what best supports the learner’s progress and rhythm.
Progress is reviewed regularly to ensure the approach remains effective and responsive, with ongoing feedback provided to parents.
Over time, growth is often seen not only in academic progress, but also in confidence, motivation, self-awareness, and overall wellbeing.
Do you involve parents, teachers, or other professionals?
Yes, collaboration is a core part of my approach. I often work closely with a learner’s support network to ensure consistency across home and school environments. With appropriate consent, I can liaise with teachers, therapists, or school-based teams, and I offer guidance to parents to help them understand and support their child’s learning journey. All collaboration is handled professionally, with strict adherence to confidentiality and the POPI Act.
Do you offer in-person or online sessions?
I offer both in-person and online sessions, depending on location and needs.
- In-person sessions are available regularly in Bryanston, Johannesburg, and intermittently in other parts of South Africa.
- Online coaching is available nationally and internationally, depending on the nature of support required.
Please send me a message outlining your needs, and I’ll let you know if I can assist.
What is your background and training?
I have a diverse background spanning health, education, programme management, and administrative support, all of which have shaped my integrative approach to learning and wellbeing.
I hold qualifications in Occupational Therapy and Education, with extensive experience supporting learners with a wide range of needs. Over time, my work has expanded to include integrative wellbeing practices, recognising the deep connection between body, mind, and learning.
In addition, I am trained in several complementary modalities, including Sensory Intelligence® and Access Bars®, which allow me to support learners from a holistic, body-based perspective.
This combination of educational expertise and wellbeing insight enables a richer understanding of how the mind, body, and environment interact to shape learning and personal growth.
What is the cost of a coaching session?
